Welcome new visitors!

Well, the first thing I did in my new blog was write some stuff, then lose it. Hmm. Since I have been selling IMCO Lighters, I have come accross lots of interesting info about them. I've been using them ever since I got my first order from IMCO.

I don't smoke any more since I have a little one, but I still rely on my IMCO's for my multiple camping trips every year. Colorado has been so dry this year, we have a fire ban, but some recent rain may change that.

If anyone wants to talk about anything at all relating to IMCO Lighters, please help me get started. By the way, this site is an extension of Thunderhawk Collectables. So for those that know me from that site, nice to see you here! Thanks! RockiesGirl

Julie do you have a collection of historic IMCO lighters? Any IFA ones-- those made before 1936?

I'm looking at Ebay and seeing a lot of old IMCOs, and not expensive, but I'd like to learn more about them before shopping.

Have you written a buyer's guide? I could do that for the Zippo, but IMCOs are new to me --- Vern

Hi again! Please check out my history pages on www.thunderhawkcollectables.com for tons of info. Most of the lighters photographed in those pages are mine, but as I add fellow ebayer pix, they are taking over. I have admittedly fallen behind in adding new information since IMCO shut their doors - been adding new products to all of my sites to make up for the loss of such a super product line! Have fun looking! Julie

Thanks Julie. I've ordered 2 books on lighters-- van Weert's, and Schneider & Pilossof's-- so I hope to learn a bit about the IMCO here soon.

Does anyone know what IMCO stands for? IFA is IMCO Feuerzeuge Austria .... "Julius Meister Company" is my best guess.

your IMCO sparker has a tab on the long silver piece.. when you find the tab , pull up on it, not sure if you pull the back or front of tab. But that is were the flint goes.. You can push that tab to any of the slots to tighten the spring or lose it... there is a compact for spare flints at the end.. So if you find those plastic lighters thrown on the ground..Pick them up and take the flint out .. IF this dose not help you, email me.. dmz0311@aol.com.. and I will go into detail for you.. The Sparkers Are COOL and smart :)

Hi Mary, The sparker just uses flint... it has no fluid.. When you use it on a gas grill, its the spark that lights up the grill. Which is cleaver, because you don't need a flame to spark a gas combustion.. Its hard to tell you in words where to put the flint.. but if you like to skyp me, I can show you where it goes on mine.. Just email me back and I will give you a phone number.. I have been using my sparker for years and love it... dmz0311@aol.com

Heads up, Guys..
Do not take apart your IMCO when the flint wheel and mechanism gets jammed... I did that (took it apart) and destroyed my lighter... The problem is not the flint wheel and/or mechanism; it's a minuscule piece of the flint that's left over when the flint is used up... this flint is very hard to see, and it's a pice shaved from the side of the flint, not the end of it. (See picture.) It will get caught in between the wheel and flap gear that you flick and jam up, making you think that the striker is broken and of no use anymore. But fear not. The problem is that the Zippo flints (and I am assuming the Ronson flints too) are not the precise same size as the flint that was originally designed to go in there, and the flint wheel leaves a tiny tiny tiny piece behind. To get it out, you have to play with the flint carrier and stick anything you can (such as a micro-screwdriver) to get in between the wheel and the flint chamber. This is not easy because as you keep striking the flint to light your cigs, the flint becomes somewhat magnetized and that tiny remnant will stick to the side of the flint chamber. So you will have to slap it (lightly against the table, hand, whatever ) to dislodge it. Once you do that, you will have a operable lighter just as before.

Since the IMCO 6700 is a Petrol lighter, does that mean I can use gasoline or is petrol another term for lighter fluid???

Yes you can use gas... It works better in the 6600, because you can wrap the wick the way you want it around or in the cotton.. I have been using White Gas in my 6600 and it works supper... it saves me lots of money as fluid is very high these days..

Mom of one little girl with Down Syndrome who loves the Rocky Mountains, IMCO Lighters are a staple in my camping gear.
Sadly, since IMCO went out of business, I've moved on to different products, but try to keep up with IMCO news. I hope this information helps all who are looking!
